History of Aruba Video

Learn about the history of Aruba and why roughly 80% of the population speak Spanish.

Aruba is a tiny island situated in the Caribbean Sea, and it is one of the constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Dutch and Papiamento are the official languages of Aruba, but a vast majority of the population, about 80%, also speaks Spanish. Although Spain previously ruled over the island, the Dutch eventually took over. In recent years, the Spanish language has gained significance on the island due to the influx of immigrants from Colombia and Venezuela.
